The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Bern is the largest in Switzerland. The NCCR RNA & Disease reinforces the leading position of Switzerland in RNA biology by connecting RNA researchers across the country and builds bridges between basic and medical research to promote rapid transition of new findings into medical applications.

The medical faculty’s Department of BioMedical Research (DBMR) supports and coordinates biomedical research. To strengthen the increasing need for computational and bioinformatics competencies, the DBMR, the medical faculty as well as the NCCR RNA & Disease have opened a call for a faculty position:

Open-rank professorship (extraordinary professorship or assistant professorship with tenure track) for Omics Data Science for transcriptomics

To be occupied immediately or upon agreement.

Description

A strong, independent academic track record in computational transcriptomic medicine is expected for the position. Integration into and collaborations with the Swiss RNA research community in the frame of the NCCR RNA & Disease (?url=https%3A%2F%2Fnccr-rna-and-disease.ch%2F&module=jobs&id=46409" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">?url=https%3A%2F%2Fnccr-rna-and-disease.ch%2F&module=jobs&id=46409" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">https://nccr-rna-and-­disease.ch/) are expected.

The thematic focus should lie in the strategic fields of the medical faculty and NCCR, including neuroscience and cancer. Interactions with Data-science professorships of clinical data science, digital pathology, computational neuroscience, telemedicine within the center of artificial intelligence in medicine (CAIM) are expected. The appointed professor will build up a hub for supporting researchers in the field of transcriptomics.

Requirements

Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in biomedical or computer science. Acquisition of competitive external funding is expected, and excellent communication and collaboration skills are a must.
Applicants have proficiency and are interested in innovative and contemporary teaching and learning concepts and are highly committed to promoting early career researchers and equal opportunity.
