The Department of Medical Oncology is part of the University Cancer Center Inselspital (UCI) and offers a comprehensive range of diagnostic and therapeutic medical services for the Inselspital, University Hospital Bern, as well as external institutions. As one of Switzerland’s leading academic institutions, Inselspital and University host liquid and tissue biobanks, up-to-date sequencing (Clinical Genomics Lab) and OMICs facilities as well as the Bern Center of Precision Medicine and the Department of Biomedical Research.

In the context of medical oncology being a key discipline of the strategy of the Inselspital and the UCI, the position of an open rank assistant professorship with tenure track or an extraordinary professorship with a special focus on Precision Oncology is to be filled.

The position carries responsibilities for both clinical care and academic and research areas with a strong clinical focus. Applicants should hold a board certificate title (Facharzttitel SIWF) for Medical Oncology or an equivalent foreign specialist title and have a broad education with in-depth knowledge and expertise in medical oncology. Furthermore, the candidate should have a "habilitation" or equivalent academic research output and a track-record in patient-centred, clinically oriented research including early clinical trials. The candidate is expected to integrate within the Department of Medical Oncology, collaborate within the departments of University/University Hospital, and participate in national and international networks. Experience with academic cancer centres is desired, and the candidate should be interactive, flexible and used to work interdisciplinary. The position also requires interest and experience in management and leadership. The candidate must have a strong record in acquiring external funding for research.

Contribution to teaching activities in the field, as well as a strong commitment to train young academics, is expected. Candidates with a mother tongue other than German may master the German language (spoken and written language) at a high level of accomplishment within two years.
