Job Summary Dalhousie University’s Faculty of Science is a research-intensive faculty that thrives on inclusive research excellence, strategic partnerships, and stakeholder engagement. Reporting to the Associate Dean, Research, the Research Development Officer supports the research enterprise in the Faculty of Science, primarily in the areas of development of research grant and award applications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work with the Associate Dean, Research, to increase the number of applications and the success rate of Faculty grant applications for faculty competing in Tri-Agency and other competitions.
  • Provide direct support to Faculty researchers applying for internal or external research grants through early-stage consulting and guidance as well as support with applications under development, including substantive feedback on content and presentation, and, where required, editorial assistance.
  • Provide indirect support for Faculty researchers applying for internal or external research grants by distributing timely information and help sheets and occasional mass-emailing.
  • Provide grant-writing seminars for faculty and graduate students, as required.
  • Work with the Associate Dean, Research, and Faculty leadership to develop long-term strategic plans for research within the Faculty.
  • Facilitate cross-departmental links, interdisciplinary research, and collaboration in the context of strategic priorities.


Note The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.

Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in a Science-related field plus approximately five years’ related experience in research administration or related environment (or an equivalent combination of training and experience).
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills to deal with the high volume and interdisciplinary setting, and to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Strong writing, editing, and presentation skills. Ability and confidence to communicate effectively with researchers from a variety of disciplines, with staff and senior administrators, and with sponsors.
  • Experience with preparation of individual and multi-author research proposals for government funding agencies.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to integrate and synthesize complex data and ideas.
  • Familiarity with Nova Scotia, Canadian and international major research funding programs.
