Researchers have access to European-based funding opportunities

University of Calgary researchers have the opportunity to participate in one of the world’s largest research and innovation funding programs-- Horizon Europe --through an investment in partnership and application support services from the Vice-President (Research) Office.

As Canada is now an Associated Country to Horizon Europe Pillar II, Canadians can access a broader range of research opportunities. Applications from Canadian researchers and innovators will be reviewed as full members of consortia in Pillar II funding opportunities to elevate their research and innovations through global partnerships.

Horizon Europe supports the world’s greatest scientific and innovative breakthroughs in research and development and industrial competitiveness. Pillar II includes six thematic clusters, each tackling specific themes to address societal issues and strengthens Europe’s industrial competitiveness.

"We’re excited to participate in Horizon Europe in 2025," says Dr. William Ghali , Vice-President (Research). "This is a unique opportunity to collaborate on transformative projects, access substantial funding, and join global multi and transdisciplinary networks."

Institutional support available for interested researchers

Institutional resources for Horizon Europe applications will be allocated through an internal Notice of Intent (iNOI) process, which will also gather information about UCalgary teams interested in Horizon Europe funding to help build required international partnerships.

An information session for interested researchers will take place online Thursday, May 1, from 12- 1 p.m. Register today.
