Utilities -06 Campus: St. George (Downtown Toronto) Existing Vacancy: Yes Description: Under the direction of the Manager, Mechanical Operations and Maintenance and/or leadership of the Lead Hand Engineer, the incumbent is responsible for the operation and maintenance in the building(s) assigned where a Third (3rd) Class Operating Engineer Certificate is required either by law or due to the complexity of the operation and/or critical services provided for building environment and Faculty. The engineer is responsible for the safe and economical operation and maintenance of all mechanical and associated equipment and services in their area of responsibility. Typical Duties: The following illustrative tasks indicate the level of skill required and the extent of responsibility involved in this job; they in no way limit the incumbent to the tasks indicated:
Minimum Requirements: Education: High School graduate or equivalent combination of education and experience plus a Third (3rd) Class Operating Engineer Certification valid in the Province of Ontario. Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of experience as an operating engineer. Must have a good working knowledge of the operation and maintenance of mechanical equipment, including refrigeration, heating (e.g. boilers) and air handling systems, and ability to comprehend and apply environmental control principles. Must have: basic electrical knowledge and trouble-shooting skills, basic proficiency in standard office computer applications (e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, Windows OS) and familiarity with computerized Building Automation Systems or other computerized control systems. Other: Must have: good diagnostic and record keeping skills, the ability to communicate effectively (both orally and written), strong customer service skills and the ability to work collaboratively with others. Building Environmental Systems Certificate an asset. Shift Details: Regular 8 hour shifts, 40 hours per week. Must be available day, afternoon and night shifts, including weekends and holidays NOTE: This is a replacement position.
