Your opportunity: 

 

Reporting to the Director, Strategic Communications & Planning, the Senior Communications Planner leads development and execution of integrated communications plans for high-profile University priorities, initiatives and issues. 
 

This role operates with a high degree of strategic insight, advising senior stakeholders on communications approaches that align with institutional goals and priorities, and effective tactics to deliver results. The Senior Communications Planner leads complex, multi-channel communications campaigns and initiatives from concept to execution, ensuring internal coordination and engagement, alignment, consistency and measurable impact across the scope of work. 

 
The incumbent will act as a trusted advisor and liaison across the institution, fostering strong relationships with key stakeholder and divisional partners and ensuring communications efforts are coordinated, strategic and effective.  

Your responsibilities will include: 
  •    Leading the independent development and implementation of integrated, multi-channel communications plans and strategies to support high-profile University initiatives and issues. 
  •    Advising on communications strategies that align with institutional goals, priorities and audiences. 
  •    Identifying opportunities, gaps and trends to inform strategic communications planning. 
  •    Ensuring communications plans are executed effectively and aligned with strategic objectives. 
  •    Developing and managing production schedules, including milestones, critical paths and reporting. 
  •    Building and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders of strategic importance. 
  •    Liaising across the University to ensure consistency and integration of messaging  
  •    Facilitating collaboration across teams to support storytelling, campaigns and cross-promotion. 
  •    Establishing and analyzing key performance indicators to measure communications effectiveness. 
  •    Recommending process improvements to enhance multi-channel communications effectiveness. 
  •    Drafting and editing high-quality content for a range of communications channels and audiences. 
  •    Ensuring all communications align with brand standards and editorial guidelines. 
     
    Essential qualifications: 
  •    Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  •    Minimum five (5) years of experience in communications, marketing or a related field. 
  •    Demonstrated experience leading complex communications projects and managing timelines. 
  •    Experience working in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment (post-secondary or public sector experience preferred). 
  •    Proven ability to develop and execute integrated, multi-channel communications strategies. 
  •    Strong experience writing and editing for a diverse range of audiences and formats. 
  •    Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. 
  •    Strong strategic thinking, analytical and problem-solving abilities.  
  •    Excellent stakeholder management and relationship-building skills. 
    o    Highly developed organizational and project management capabilities. 
    o    Ability to manage competing priorities and time-sensitive, often. unpredictable deadlines. 
    o    Professional demeanor and ability to exercise sound judgment, discretion and a high degree of political acuity. 
    o    Meticulous attention to detail and strong editorial standards. 
    o    Service-oriented mindset with a collaborative approach.

Pay Scale Group & Hiring Zone:
USW Pay Band 15 -- $97,348. with an annual step progression to a maximum of $124,491. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
