Useful information about Canada’s health care system and Medicare

Canada’s health care system, includes Medicare, financing, access to and delivery of health care services.

Public health insurance is a term used to refer to Canada’s publicly funded health care system. Rather than a single national plan, Canada has 13 provincial and territorial health insurance plans. Under this system, Canadian residents have satisfactory access to necessary medical and hospital services without having to pay out-of-pocket.

Provincial and territorial governments are responsible for the management and organization of healthcare services. In addition, they ensure the delivery of these services to their residents.
