General Purpose

Reporting to the Manager, Content & Accessibility Services, the Content & Accessibility Associate delivers essential services for students registered with Student Accessibility Services (SAS) and supports the creation of high-quality, accessible digital learning resources.

 

The incumbent will ensure that students with disabilities have equitable access to course materials by creating and remediating alternative-format documents and providing training and support on assistive technologies. They will also collaborate with library employees to create engaging videos, guides, tutorials, and learning materials. They will advise colleagues on pedagogy, accessibility, and effective digital content design. This position may require occasional evenings and weekends for special events.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Produce and remediate alternative-format materials, using tools like MS Office Suite, PAC, Adobe Acrobat Pro.   

  • Support students in using assistive technologies like NVDA, Kurzweil 3000, Mindomo, Genio, and Dragon Professional.

  • Create, revise, and review eLearning resources such as videos, help guides, and tutorials, to meet accessibility and AODA standards.

  • Provide consultations and training  for a variety of subjects to library staff, faculty, and students.

  • Maintain team spaces, including the Access Lab and SAS study rooms, and media/assistive technologies.

  • Develop workflows, support documentation, and reports.

  • Participate in committee work, professional development, and Library-wide initiatives.



 

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in a related field and 1-2 years of experience in digital accessibility, media creation, eLearning support, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Knowledge of digital accessibility practices, AODA, and Ontario Human Rights code related to access to education.

  • Knowledge of eLearning pedagogy and digital content creation.  

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated experience in collaboration, problem-solving, critical thinking, and customer service.

  • Ability to build positive relationships with stakeholders and to exercise empathy, diplomacy, and tact.

  • Experience working with student population in a service focused role within Higher Education.

  • Ability to manage conflict with diplomacy and professionalism.

  • Technical proficiency with media creation tools, assistive technologies, and digital accessibility practices.



 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with students in a support role in Higher Education.

  • Certificate/diploma in assistive technology, accessible document design, or media creation.

  • Experience using tools such as Adobe Acrobat Pro, Adobe Premiere Pro, Audition, InDesign, PAC, Kurzweil 3000, or tactile/Braille production equipment.
