Jackman Faculty of Law is one of the oldest professional faculties at the University of Toronto. Today, it is one of the world’s great law schools. Jackman Law’s rich academic programs are complemented by its many legal clinics and public interest programs. Jackman Law is housed in the elegant, state-of-the-art Jackman Law Building, alongside two historic buildings, Flavelle House and Falconer Hall, on the St. George Campus in downtown Toronto. Your opportunity: Pro Bono Students Canada (PBSC) is a national organization which is hosted by and has its head office at the Jackman Faculty of Law, with Chapters at 22 Canadian law schools. PBSC’s mission includes providing free legal support to people and communities facing barriers to justice and providing law students with an opportunity to develop their legal skills. Under the supervision of the National Director, the Program Officer will be fluent in English and French and will provide guidance to PBSC’s chapter student leaders in addition to supporting the development and operation of access to justice-oriented projects. The Program Officer will ensure that the student leaders understand and implement PBSC’s established policies, procedures, and timelines, and guide in problem-solving issues as they arise to maintain effective chapter operations The Incumbent will regularly communicate in French and English with chapter stakeholders, including law school staff/faculty, non-profit organizations, lawyers, and student staff and volunteers to effectively oversee and support the chapters. Beyond their one-on-one work with the student leaders, the incumbent will assist with running PBSC’s annual National Training Conference and other events, as well as supporting the diverse initiatives of the National Office.
