
Waterloo climbed one position to secure a second place tie in Canada for computer science, ranking 27th globally. The University also saw a significant leap in mathematics, rising 18 spots to reach 29th in the world. Globally, the University has 15 subjects in the top 100 for the first time since 2021, including 4 subjects in the top 50.

Nationally, Waterloo ranks second in Canada across several subject areas, including architecture, computer science, electrical engineering, classics and ancient history and hospitality and leisure management. Waterloo remains competitive in fields such as data science, civil engineering, statistics and operational research, and sports-related subjects.
The annual rankings evaluate approximately 1,912 universities across 55 specialized subject areas. They are based on a comprehensive methodology that includes academic peer reputation, employer reputation, research citations and international research collaboration.
